(Rochester, Minn.) – Rochester Honkers starting pitcher Cole Quintanilla (Texas) tossed five dominant innings for the Honkers to help secure a 6-2 victory over the defending champion St. Cloud Rox Tuesday at Joe Faber Field. The win gives the Honkers their second straight to improve to 5-8 in the second half and 22-27 overall. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak at home for the Rox as they fall to 7-6 and 23-26.

Quintanilla did not allow a run in his five innings of work, he allowed just two hits and struck out three to post his first win of the season. Zach Sundine (Lamar CC) came in relief to toss a scoreless sixth inning. Joshua Ibarra (Concordia Irvine) got the final two outs of the game to record his eighth save of the season.

Alex McGarry (Oregon State) recorded his fifth straight multi-hit game going 2-for-3 and scoring a run on the night. Additionally, Michael Michalak (Illinois) and Christian Robinson (Stanford) added two hits.

Neither team could get a much offense going until the Honkers bats came alive putting four runs on the board in the sixth. Robinson gave the Honkers a 1-0 lead coming around to score on a wild pitch. Logan Denholm (UC Davis) extended the lead for the Honkers driving in a run with a sacrifice fly to right. Casey Dunlap (Point Loma Nazarene) drove in a run with a single to push the Honker lead to 3-0. Dunlap was later driven in on a double by Michalak.

Robinson gave Rochester an insurance run in the seventh driving a single up the middle to extend the Honkers lead to 5-0. Alex Baeza (Hawaii) gave the Honkers another run with a RBI single of his own to put Rochester up 6-0.

Jack Barrie (Northwestern Ohio) got the Rox on the board in the ninth crushing a solo home run to cut the Honkers lead to 6-1. Ryan Davis (Georgetown) gave St. Cloud another run with a RBI single to left.

John Matthews (Kent State) took the loss in relief for the Rox. Matthews tossed one inning surrendering four runs on two hits.

The Honkers and the Rox will play the series finale on Wednesday at Joe Faber Field. Darin Kilfoyl (Saint Johns River State) is scheduled to start for the Honkers, Kilfoyl has a 3.64 ERA and has struck out 35 over 24 2/3 innings. Evan Johnson (Creighton) is scheduled to start for St. Cloud, Johnson has recorded a 2.35 ERA and a 2-0 record. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
