-WATERLOO, IA
The Rochester Honkers two-game winning streak came to end in Waterloo as the Bucks defeated the Honkers 7-1 in the series opener on Saturday night. Rochester falls to 3-2 on season as Waterloo improves to 4-1.
The Bucks got the scoring started in the second inning as they scored four runs with the big hit coming from Mike Nyisztor (Rutgers) as he produced a two-run single that put the Honkers behind early.
The early four-run inning would prove to be too much to overcome for the Rochester offense as Zach Jones (Spalding) kept the Honker bats quiet by striking out eight across six innings of work.
Rochester’s best chance at a rally came in the sixth inning when Tim Borden II (Louisville) singled home Brennan Schmitt (UW-La Crosse) to make it a 5-1 game. But that is all the Honkers would be able to put up on the board in the game as Waterloo’s pitching was just too much to handle on Saturday night.
The Honkers will return home on Sunday as they go for the series split against Waterloo. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
