The Rochester Honkers delivered with some clutch hits and big-time pitching at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud as they returned to the win column with a 4-1 victory.
The Honkers would load the bases in the third inning and took advantage as Aaron Simmons (UW-Stevens Point) delivered with an RBI single to give Rochester a 1-0 lead. The Rox would even the score in the bottom of the inning when Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) produced an RBI single that scored Ben Carew (Kent State).
The game would remain tied until the sixth when Jack Thelen (UW-Milwaukee) broke the tie with a two-run blast over the left field wall. Tristian Peterson (New Mexico State) followed that up with an RBI Triple to score Evan Burkey (Cal-State Fullerton) and make it a 4–1 lead for Rochester.
The pitching took care of business once again as Evan Layne (Lake Erie), Marc Bisogno (Fordham), and Marty Tolson Jr. (Maryland Eastern Shore) combined for five scoreless innings out of the bullpen to secure the win with Layne getting the win, and Tolson picking up his third save. Evan Larsen (Cal-State Fullerton) started the game and pitched four strong innings that helped lead the Honkers to victory.
With the win, the Honkers improve to 6-5 on the season and end a long five-game road trip with a win. Rochester returns to Mayo Field on Saturday to battle the Rox again with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m
