Rochester made the trip to Duluth hoping to build on the momentum of yesterday’s win but could not get the bats going in a 4-2 series opening loss to Duluth. The Honkers were held off the scoreboard for the final seven innings after a pair of runs in the second inning.

Rochester came through with consecutive two-out huts to score their lone runs of the ballgame. A Jackson Forbes (San Jose State) double and Mike Bolton Jr. (Purdue) walk put two on for the top of the Honkers order. Alex Pimentel (Long Beach State) drove in his fifteenth run of the summer with a single to center, followed by Jack Colette’s (San Jose State) ninth RBI to give the Honkers the lead. After collecting four hits in the first two innings, Rochester was held to just three for the rest of the afternoon.

Duluth cut the Honkers lead in half in the bottom of second with a sacrifice fly and took the lead in the fifth on a two-out, two-RBI single by Peyton Powell (Texas). Duluth tacked on a run in the sixth with another sac fly.

Rochester brought the tying run to plate in each of the final three innings but could not pull any closer.

With the setback, the Honkers fall to 14-17, awaiting the series finale tomorrow night at 6:35 from Wade Stadium.
