Rochester was not able to find its footing offensively, dropping the series opener with Duluth 6-0. The Honkers had just one hit in the ballgame.

Despite the slow offensive effort, Rochester remained in the ballgame thanks to Kellen Pate. (Northwestern) The freshman tossed five innings of one run ball, allowing four hits, and recording two strikeouts.

Duluth pulled away in the ballgame with five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, Brian Broecker (Michigan St) drove in two with a single to bring home his second and third RBIs of the day. Calyn Halvorson (North Oklahoma Enid) extended the lead with a two-run single in the seventh.

Rochester’s lone hit came in the fourth inning, a Jackson Forbes (San Diego St) leadoff single. The Honkers walked six times but could not crack the code on Duluth starter Jonny Guzman, (San Diego St) who threw seven shutout innings.

Rochester falls to 17-18 on the season, awaiting the finale of the series tomorrow at 6:35 in Duluth.
