Rochester used a pair of big innings to wrap up their season with a 9-6 win over the Mankato MoonDogs. The Honkers scored five times in the third and notched a three-run eighth to seal the victory.

Rochester fell behind following a three-run Mankato first inning. The Moondogs collected four straight hits with Matt Higgins (Bellarmine) and Max Crabbe (Texas St) notching RBIs.

The Honkers battled back to take the lead in a five-run third. Rochester batted around with five hits in the inning. Otto Grimm (Minnesota) started the scoring with a two-run double. The Minnesota outfielder finished with a team-high 28 runs batted in on the summer. Ike Mezzenga (North Iowa Area CC) followed with another two-run double. Alex Pimentel (Long Beach St) added on with a sacrifice fly.

The MoonDogs knotted the game in the bottom half with a Matt Higgins single and Carson Yates (UCLA) RBI groundout.
The score remained even until the sixth with Nico Regino delivering a sac fly to give the Honkers the lead once again.

Rochester created some separation in the seventh, getting a big hit from Andrew McKenna. (Santa Barbara City) The Honker catcher came through with a two-out, bases-clearing double to add to the lead.

The Rochester bullpen was excellent for a second straight night in closing out the win. Patrick Williams (Lipscomb) earned the win, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with five strikeouts. The freshman finished the season with just one earned run allowed in his final 17.2 innings.

Ben Grable (Northwestern) was credited with his first save in the victory, working three scoreless innings and striking out seven. Grable allowed just two earned runs in his last 18 innings pitched, racking up 30 strikeouts.

Rochester concludes the season with a record of 30-37 and 15-20 on the second half. The Honkers would like to thank our loyal fans for their support this season and look forward to seeing you at Mayo Field in 2022!
