ROCHESTER, MINN – Making his season debut Brant Alazaus (Walsh University) dominated the La Crosse Loggers in a 4-0 win for the Rochester Honkers on Sunday evening at Mayo Field.

Brant Alazaus toed the Mayo Field rubber for the first time in 2022 tonight and delivered another signature performance. He threw six scoreless innings and picked up his first win of the season. The Honkers southpaw absolutely cruised, at one point he retired 11 Loggers in a row. He struck out eight La Crosse hitters, seven of them swinging. They were consistently befuddled by Alazaus’ fastball-curveball combo. Overall Alazaus struck out eight, allowed five hits and didn’t walk a batter.

The Honkers four runs were more than enough. Michael Carico (Davidson) drew first blood with his first homer of the season, a solo shot to right center field. Rochester added three more in the seventh. Zach Meddings (Coastal Carolina) brought in a run with a bases loaded walk and Nico Regino (Delta College) hit a two run single to make it 4-0.

The backend of the Honkers bullpen once again dazzled. Cam Holycross (Indiana State) threw two scoreless innings relieving Alazaus, and Thaniel Trumper (Doane) shut it down by striking out the side in order in the ninth.

The Honkers improve to 3-4 on the season, winning their second game in their last three tries. Rochester will travel to La Crosse tomorrow to complete the home and home series. Noah Rooney (Minnesota) makes his second start of the season. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
