For the third consecutive game the Honkers never trailed as they beat the St. Cloud Rox 10-6 on Saturday night at Joe Faber Field.

The Honkers started quickly tonight, taking a 3-0 lead four batters in. After Theo Hardy (San Jose State) and Kevin Dowdell (West Virginia) singled and doubled, Nico Regino gave the Honkers a 3-0 lead with a three run home run, his first of the summer. However, St. Cloud tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. They scored on a double play then put up two runs with two outs thanks to RBI singles from Ethan Mann (Dallas Baptist) and O’Neill Burgos (Southern). In the process they knocked Noah Rooney (Minnesota) out of the game after one inning, as he threw more than 35 pitches.

Rochester re-took the lead with three unearned runs in the second and blew it open with a four spot in the fourth. Kevin Dowdell drove in a run with a single. The keynote of the frame was a two out, two run single from Zach Meddings (Coastal Carolina) to make it 10-3 Honkers.

The Rox battled their way back, scoring two in the fourth and one in the sixth but it wasn’t enough as their lineup was stifled by the Honkers bullpen. The Rochester pen combined to throw eight innings, allowing one earned run and struck out 10. Cam Holycross (Indiana State) threw two scoreless innings. Carson Revay (Fresno State) picked up his second win of the summer. He pitched two innings and gave up two unearned runs. Sebastian Mejia (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) recorded his first save, pitching the final four innings with six strikeouts.

With the win the Honkers improve to 6-3 in the second half and win their third game in a row. They’ll look for the two game sweep over the Rox Sunday afternoon, first pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. from Joe Faber Field.
