ROCHESTER, MINN – The Honkers came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Duluth Huskies 9-4 on Thursday night at Mayo Field. 

The Honkers fell behind 3-0 after the Huskies put up a run in the first, third and fourth. Duluth scored the first run of the game on a throwing error from Michael Brown (Washington). Their next two runs scored on RBI groundouts from Devin Hurdle (Nebraska Omaha) and Cam Frederick (Nebraska Omaha). 

Rochester was held scoreless through the first five innings but broke out in a huge way in the sixth and seventh. The Honkers took the lead with a four run sixth. After a bases loaded hit by pitch, Brendan O’Sullivan (Delta College) tied the game with a two run single. The very next batter, Dario Gomez (Nevada), gave Rochester the lead with a run scoring single. 

In the seventh the Honkers added five more runs to blow the game open. The big hits in the inning were an RBI single from Kyle Whitaker (Patrick Henry CC), a Brendan O’Sullivan run scoring double and Dario Gomez RBI single. With four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh the Honkers turned a 3-0 deficit into a 9-3 lead. 

With the win the Honkers improve to 12-13 in the second half. They’ll look for the sweep over Duluth tomorrow night, first pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
