ROCHESTER, MINN – The Rochester Honkers were unable to sweep the Duluth Huskies as they lost game two 5-1 on Friday night at Mayo Field.
Max Meyer (Indiana State) got the start for the Honkers and was very good over his three innings. The Rochester righty didn’t give up a run on two hits. Carson Revay (Fresno State) came on for Meyer in the fourth and worked a 1-2-3 inning. The Honkers scored the first run of the game in the bottom half. Theo Hardy (San Jose State) gave the Honkers a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. His base hit drove in his 28th run of the summer, the most on the Honkers.
The score would stay that way until the sixth. The Huskies put up two runs on a Cam Frederick (Nebraska Omaha) RBI single and Jonathan Vastine (Vanderbilt) sac fly. They added three more in the seventh as two runs came into score on a throwing error by Justin Agnor (William Jewell College) and the third Duluth run crossed the plate on a Joe Voss (St. Thomas) RBI single.
The Honkers threatened in the bottom of the ninth as they were one base runner away from bringing up the tying run but Brendan O’Sullivan (Delta College) struck out to end the ballgame.
With the loss the Honkers fall to 12-14 in the second half and are 3-3 on this seven game homestand. They’ll look for a winning homestand Saturday night when they host the La Crosse Loggers. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Mayo Field.
