LA CROSSE, WI – After a Saturday night rainout the Rochester Honkers went into Copeland Park and swept a doubleheader against the La Crosse Loggers.

Both games were seven innings and the Honkers won game one in dominating fashion. They took a 4-0 lead in the third inning on a Brendan O’Sullivan (Delta College) RBI single, a throwing error, and a two run home run from Dario Gomez (Nevada). They added two more in the fourth to make it 6-0. Rochester got a great start from Jacob Smith (Tennessee at Martin) who faced the minimum over his three innings. The Loggers got back in the game thanks to two bases loaded walks in the sixth but Tim Sabo (Florida Southern) stranded the bases loaded and Rochester added four runs in the seventh to pull away and win game one 10-2.

In game two the Honkers once again jumped out in front early. They scored four runs on just two hits to take a 4-0 lead in the second. They got another terrific outing from their starter as Andrew Duran (Lubbock Christian) gave up just one run on three hits over five innings, stranding seven Loggers on base. However, La Crosse made it a 4-3 game in the sixth and tied it up in the seventh inning. In the bottom half of the seventh the Honkers looked to walk off the Loggers with Rochester serving as the home team in game two. With the bases loaded and one out Kyle Whitaker (Patrick & Henry CC) drew a bases loaded walk and the Honkers won game two 5-4.

With the doubleheader sweep the Honkers are back at .500 in the second half at 14-14. They are back in action tomorrow as they begin a two game series in Mankato against the MoonDogs. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
