WATERLOO, IA – The Rochester Honkers completed a two game sweep over the Waterloo Bucks with a 11-6 victory on Thursday night at Riverfront Stadium.
The Bucks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Alex Crouch (Missouri Western State) gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. The Honkers took their first lead of the game in the third. They scored two runs without a hit, thanks to three walks, a hit-by-pitch and three wild pitches. Waterloo tied the game in the fourth and after Rochester re-took the lead in the fifth they put up a four spot to lead 6-3. In the inning they scored four runs on four hits and got RBI knocks from Crouch, Jose Ramirez (Mineral Area) and Justin Deal (Santa Barbara City).
After that inning, it was all Rochester. The Honkers scored five runs the very next half-inning after Waterloo took the lead. They had three hits in the inning and got RBI from Menelik Israel (Duke), Tyler White (Long Beach State) and Carson Stevens (Cal Poly). They added two more in the seventh on a Brendan O’Sullivan (Delta College) two run single and added another run in the ninth. The Honkers scored eight unanswered runs to turn a 6-3 deficit into a 11-6 win.
With the victory the Honkers end the season series 7-1 against the Bucks and finish off their fourth sweep of the summer. They return home to play their final home game of the summer against the Eau Claire Express on Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
