EAU CLAIRE, WI – The Rochester Honkers lost to the Eau Claire Express 13-5 to complete their 2022 season on Saturday night at Carson Park. 

The Honkers got off to a fast start in this game, they scored three runs on two hits to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Brendan O’Sullivan (Delta College) drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single, Will Asby (Sac City) made it 2-0 with a sac fly and O’Sullivan scored the third run on a wild pitch. 

The Express tied the game with a three run third. Reed Latimer (Montevallo) drove in two with a double and Charlie Saum (Stanford) tied the game with a run scoring single. They took the lead in the fourth on a Joe Yorke (Cal Poly) groundout. Jake Sapien (Stanford) added another run with an RBI single. In the sixth the Express scored another on a Cadyn Schwabe (North Dakota State University) RBI single. The Express scored six unanswered runs to take a 6-3 lead. 

The Honkers kept fighting back as they got a run back in the sixth, but Eau Claire responded with a two spot in the bottom of the inning. After Rochester scored again in the top of the seventh the Express blew it open with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, four on a Joe Yorke grand slam. His home run made it 13-5 Express and that would end up being the final score in the Honkers last game of the summer. 

With the loss the Honkers end their season with a 32-26 overall record and 17-17 in the second half. Thank you for following along all summer Honkers fans!
