WATERLOO, IA – The Rochester Honkers never trailed in a 10-6 victory over the Waterloo Bucks Thursday night at Riverfront Stadium.
The Honkers scored early and often, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a Michael Carico (Davidson) RBI single. They added three more in the second, the big hit was a Jakob Guardado (Pasadena City) RBI double. In the third the Honkers added two more, both coming on a Carson Stevens (Cal Poly) two run single.
With Rochester ahead 6-0 Waterloo worked their way back. They scored two in the third and three in the fourth to pull within one. However the biggest moment of this game was in the fifth. Carson Revay (Fresno State) was in a bases loaded nobody out jam and got out of it with a strikeout and 4-6-3 double play, keeping the Honkers in front by a run.
The Honkers would add on and put the game to bed. Zach Meddings (Coastal Carolina) drove in a run with a single in the sixth, making it 7-5. AJ Campbell (Frostburg State) hit his second home run of the summer in the eighth, a solo shot that made it 8-5. The Honkers added two more in the ninth, one of them coming on another Meddings single, his fifth hit of the night. After the game Zach was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night as he went 5 for 6 with two runs scored and two RBI.
The Honkers defeat the Bucks 10-6 and improve to 4-3 in the second half. They’ll look for the series sweep tomorrow night at Mayo Field. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
