Rochester Honkers Team Up with Olmsted Medical Center for Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Services
Rochester, Minn. (Feb. 9, 2015)—The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods collegiate summer baseball league, recently named Olmsted Medical Center (OMC) as the team’s official provider of sports medicine and athletic training services.
As part of a three-year agreement with the Rochester Honkers, OMC’s certified athletic trainers (ATCs) will provide evaluation and initial treatment of sports-related injuries to Honkers players during home games beginning with the 2015 season. OMC’s ATCs also will offer Honkers players in-services on preventive-medicine topics like avoiding concussions, proper nutrition and hydration, and avoiding chronic sports-related injuries.
“We are excited to team up with OMC and bring our sports medicine and athletic training under one umbrella,” said Rochester Honkers General Manager Dan Litzinger. “By doing this we have streamlined to help better serve not only the administrative side, but more importantly the overall care and experience for our players.”
“This new partnership was built on the solid foundation of mutual support and respect that we and our hometown baseball team have built over time,” said OMC sports medicine provider Matt Thompson, MD. “We’re expanding our involvement in the team’s health and wellness far beyond the support we’ve provided in years past.” Dr. Thompson currently serves as a primary sports medicine physician for Rochester Community and Technical College's athletics programs and is a team sports medicine physician for Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers team.
OMC began offering expansive services to southeast Minnesota’s athletes of all sports and ages in January 2014 at its $3.3-million Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance facility in northwest Rochester. The facility and services quickly have grown popular among athletes in the region.

The Rochester Honkers 22nd season begins on May 26, 2015, when the Mankato MoonDogs visit Mayo Field for a 7:05 PM first pitch. Season tickets, bonus books, suites, and patios are now available.
