(Rochester, Minn.)— The Rochester Honkers split the first season series against the Willmar Stingers after notching a 4-2 victory tonight. Spencer Greer (Dixie State) earned the win for the Honkers after throwing three scoreless innings to close the game. Davis Adkins (Georgia Gwinnet) was charged with the loss for Willmar.
After the teams played a scoreless first two innings, Joe DeRoche-Duffin (UCONN) gave the Honkers their first lead with an RBI double in the third that brought Miles Mastrobuoni (College of San Mateo) in. The Stingers responded in the Bottom of the fourth, plating two runs of their own to take the lead back.
Mastrobuoni scored again in the fifth, this time batted in by Alex Schultz (Nebraska-Omaha), to tie the ballgame. The 2-2 score stood until the top of the eight, when Sam Hall (Disie State) brought Duffin and Schultz in on a 2-RBI single. The Stingers got two runners on base with two outs in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback, setting the final at 4-2.
