(Duluth, Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers fell to the Duluth Huskies 9-1 in Duluth Friday night, in a game that was called after 5.5 innings of play due to the weather and field conditions. The game also featured a rain delay that lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes.
The Huskies got to Honkers’ starter Erik Cha (1-6) (Cal State Fullerton) early has they scored five of their nine runs in the first inning.
Dillion Paulson (Southern California) hit a RBI single to score Daniel Amaral (UCLA), which was followed by a RBI single from Austin Bernard (Pepperdine) to get a 2-0 lead. The Huskies added another three runs to take a 5-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Honkers scored their lone run in the second inning after Joey Czarske (Cal State Northridge) led off the inning with a triple, and was driven in on the next pitch by Josh Davis (Pepperdine) to make the score 5-1.
Casey Moses (Texas Wesleyan) hit a triple and scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, Paulson hit a solo home run to extend the Huskies lead to 7-1. Moses hit his second triple of the game in the bottom of the fifth that scored two runs, and gave the Huskies a 9-1 lead.
Cha got the start and the loss for the Honkers; he went one inning, allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out one. Bayley Chesterton (Riverside CC) pitched four innings of relief; he allowed four runs, three of them earned, on three hits, walked two and struck out three.
Henry DeCaster (South Dakota State) started the first two innings for the Huskies; he allowed one run on two hits and struck out one. Marcus Frederickson (2-1) (Minnesota-Duluth) picked up the win for the Huskies; he threw the final four innings, allowed two hits, walked two and struck out seven.
With the loss the Honkers fall to 13-22 in the second half and 20-50 overall, while the Huskies move to 11-23 in the second half and 29-41 overall.
Saturday and Sunday the Honkers will go to La Crosse to battle the Loggers for their final series of the 2016 season. First pitch on Saturday is set for 6:05 p.m. and Sunday’s first pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
