WATERLOO – The visiting Madison Mallards posted six runs over the fifth and sixth frames to move past the Waterloo Bucks 9-7 Sunday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium.
The Northwoods League South leaders (12-7 second half, 31-22 overall) trailed 6-3 after four before piecing together their comeback. Designated hitter Joe Patterson (Texas A&M) and infielder Jacob Esch (Georgia Tech) each turned in multiple-hit games for the Mallards.
Waterloo (10-10 second half, 20-33 overall) dipped to two and a half games behind Madison. Second baseman Tyler Robbins (Des Moines Area C.C.) topped the offensive output for field manager Pete Lauritson’s squad, finishing with three hits and two RBIs. Left fielder Phil Keppler (Iowa) and catcher Josh Lyon (Indiana) each added two hits.
The current home stand continues Monday night at 6:05 p.m. with a pair of seven-inning contests against the Eau Claire Express. It’s Toad’s Bar and Grill Buck Night, powered by Toad’s Bar and Grill and Kool 105.7 FM, Waterloo. Tickets for $1 are available at both locations. All regular-sized beer draws and fountain sodas, hot dogs and popcorn are $1 as well.
