This week we are catching up with former Waterloo Bucks catcher Phil Britton. The Atlanta Braves drafted the Olney, Illinois native in the 36th round of the 2004 amateur entry draft. However, Britton’s first year in the minors wasn’t until 2005, when he reported to the Braves Gulf Coast rookie league team. Since being drafted, Britton has been progressing through the Braves minor league system. He spent the 2009 season catching for the Braves Double-A affiliate Mississippi Braves.
Britton played in 39 games for the Braves this past summer, catching in all of them. He recorded 29 hits in 126 plate appearances, while sporting a .222 batting average. The Olney Central Community College alum also laced 10 doubles and scored nine times for the Braves during their 2009 campaign.
Britton was a member of the Waterloo Bucks during the 2004 season. He played in 8 games for the Bucks that season, making 27 plate appearances and accumulating two hits. In Britton’s brief stint with the Bucks he hit one home run, scored five runs, and drove in two runs.
