Five Questions with Travis Kiewiet
1. What is the weirdest thing a player ever said to you?
I can’t really think of a weird thing a player has said to me but I have been a part of many weird discussions. The one that comes to mind first was one that we had last year at a pregame meal. The discussion was "Could a sniper sitting in the bleachers shoot every player coming off the field after the third out of an inning?" I know it’s not a very good visual to think of, but it does make for a great discussion.
2. What’s one of the best pranks pulled at a team hotel by you or anyone else?
Whenever we get to our hotel for a road trip we give the keys to one of the players whose name is on the key which could be two or three names. Anyway, there was always this one player that would never get told by his roommates what room he was in and every time, we would get a call from this person asking where to go. Not the best of pranks. I’ll be ready for this question next year.
3. What team will win the Stanley Cup?
I think the Phoenix Coyotes are in a good spot to take home the trophy. Right now their goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, is playing very well and the team is taking care of business at home.
4. What word should be added to the dictionary?
I saw this word one time on the show "Not Necessarily The News". The word is "squatcho" (skwatch’ oh) -n. : The button at the top of a baseball cap.
5. What shouldn’t be an Olympic sport?
I’ll give one for both the summer and winter Olympics. For the summer Olympics, I would have to go with equestrian…no offense to the horse lovers out there. I’ve never been a fan of horses since getting bucked off when I was kid. Also, I think horses have a major impact on who wins. As far as the winter Olympics go, I would have to say that figure skating shouldn’t be an Olympic sport. There’s too much fluff around the whole event. You have to sift through a lot of gibberish to get to what you are there to see…the jumps. Just line them up, do the jumps and get the winner.
