Same teams, different story. With last night’s embarrassing 11-2 home loss seared into their minds, the Waterloo Bucks seized sweet revenge over the La Crosse Loggers with a 9-3 victory, evening the series at one game apiece.
Bucks’ ace pitcher Jarod Wagoner (pictured above) put the team on his back and pitched a gem of a game. Wagoner (2-0) was consistent on his way to the win, throwing strikes on 80 of his 103 total pitches. Until the sixth inning, Wagoner was pitching a no-hitter and had only allowed two base runners. The no-hitter was spoiled, but Wagoner still ended the night with impressive numbers pitching four strikeouts and allowing only five hits and one walk. Loggers’ starter Calvin Drummond (1-1) was credited with the loss.
With Wagoner taking care of business on the mound, the Waterloo offense had room to strike. The Bucks blew the game open with a monster six run fourth inning and didn’t let up. Eight players recorded hits for the Bucks in the game, including multiple hit performances by DH Zach McCool, 1B Jake Astor, 3B Brandon Williams, and 2B Tyler Robbins. McCool delivered three runs and one RBI on the night, batting three-for-four and pushing his batting average up to .478. Brandon Williams also recorded three RBIs, and RF Phil Keppler contributed two.
The Bucks also had a much better night in the field registering only one error. Waterloo also turned three double plays.
