Point taken. After being swept by the Green Bay Bullfrogs over the weekend, the Waterloo Bucks (14-12) traveled to Wisconsin Rapids looking to bounce back. Not only did the Bucks bounce back, they also made a statement of confidence and ferocity with a ruthless 15-0 win over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (9-15).
Bucks’ starting pitcher Taylor Massey (3-0) led the way from the hill, pitching a complete game and shutting out the Rafters. Massey (pictured) smothered the Rafters’ offense, refusing to allow a single run on any of their seven hits. As he recorded the win, Massey was also able to record six strikeouts. Rafters’ starting pitcher Mitch Running (2-2) was slapped with the loss after allowing seven runs on four hits in just two innings on the mound.
With Massey comfortably holding down the Rafters on defense, the Waterloo offense caught fire. The Bucks got fifteen total hits from ten different players in the game. 1B Ryan Rieger led the way on offense batting three-for-five on the day. Rieger also bombed his fourth homerun of the season in the top of the ninth inning, putting the exclamation point on the rout. Rieger’s four RBIs led the team, but the Bucks also got multiple RBIs from 3B Brandon Williams, RF Phil Keppler, and C Jonathan Crist.
The Bucks will take on the Rafters again on Wednesday night at 7:05 P.M. at Witter Field. The Mitch Mormann is set to make his first start of the season at pitcher for Waterloo, and will take on Rafters’ starting pitcher Tommy Organ (0-1). While the Rafters look to erase tonight’s disgusting loss, the Bucks will look to prove to the South Division that they’re still a threat.
