Dan DeMent was raised in Palos Heights, Illinois and went to High School at Providence Catholic. He was a 5’10" and 180lb infielder for most of his career. He was platooned at 3B, 2B and SS while spending some time in the OF as well.
Dan played for the Waterloo Bucks in the years 1998 and 1999 while playing for the University of Alamaba (Birmingham). In his time with the Bucks, Dan had a 0.361 batting average in 115 games. He had 156 hits in his 432 at bats while having 40 doubles, 12
Dan went on and got signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on June 22, 2000. He played two years in single A before being promoted to double A where he spent a few more seasons. Dan got called up to triple A for a few years as well before ultimately hanging up his glove for a coaching job.
He put up some strong numbers in the minors before he called it a career. He played in 864 games with a 0.268 batting average. He had 802 hits in 2997 at bats with 177 doubles, 35 triples, and 77 home runs while hitting in 394 runs.
Dan took an assisting coaches job for the Princeton Rays in 2009 and took them to finish 2nd that year. He also took an assistant coaching job in 2010 for the Gulf Coast Rays and took them to 1st place that year.
Dan DeMent will always be recognized as a Waterloo Buck and everyone here in the Cedar Valley wishies him the best of luck.
