Catching up With Former Waterloo Buck Jeff Lanning.
This week we catch up with former Waterloo Buck catcher Jeff Lanning. Jeff played for the Waterloo Bucks in the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
Jeff grew up in Ankeny, IA and played High School ball for Ankeny High School. Jeff is 6’2" and 210 lbs and he throws/bats right handed. Jeff attended the University of Nebraska while playing for the Bucks before transferring to the University of New Orleans for his final year.
As a Waterloo Buck, Jeff played in 86 games with a 0.286 batting average in 318 at-bats. Jeff had 91 hits, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 38 runs batted in, 32 walks, and 8 stolen bases.
Jeff was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2008 (8th round, #246 overall). He has spent most of his time in the single A while posting some good stats. Jeff played for the Minnesota Twin minor league system for two years before being signed by the Philadelphia Phillies where he played for the Lakewood BlueClaws last season.
In the minors, Jeff has a 0.254 batting average in 566 at-bats. He has 144 hits, 36 doubles, 2 triples, 19 home runs, 80 runs batted in, 54 walks, and 5 stolen bases. His best season came in 2010 with the Williamsport Crosscutters where he hit 0.264 with 8 home runs in 48 games.
Look for Jeff next season as he continues to try to get into the big leauges as he comes up through the system with the Philadelphia Phillies.
