Waterloo, IA – Tonight the Bucks scored first but managed only two runs on four hits in an 8-2 loss to the Huskies of Duluth, Minnesota. With the loss, Waterloo falls to 18-8 on the season while the Huskies improved to 12-12 overall.

The blue and yellow scored both of their runs in the bottom first. Benny Roberts brought home Peter Leonello with an RBI single. Davis Hendrickson then scored on an groundout from Austin Barrett.

That would be all however as Duluth’s best pitcher continued that trend. Joey Novak, now 5-0 on the season, went six innings while giving up just two runs, one earned on four hits while striking out six Bucks and walking only two. The bullpen for the guests then provided three shutout innings to close the game out and get the Huskies back to a .500 winning percentage.

The starter for the hosts, Chris Dunn was taken out after just four and a third innings. After that though, the bullpen threw four and two thirds and gave up just one earned run. The four that threw in relief were Justin Grijalva, Rick Dodridge, Brett Andrzejewski, and Zachary Pettiford. Three Duluth hitters had three hits a piece.

Next up for Waterloo is the second game of this series. First pitch Tuesday night is set for 6:35 p.m. Keep checking back into www.waterloobucks.com for all of the latest news on The Cedar Valley’s Home Team.
