A solid night of Bucks pitching was spoiled by poor defense, as the Bucks fell to the Moondogs 5-2. The Bucks equaled the amount of hits of the Moondogs of nine and also had the same amount of earned runs with two. Unfortunately, the Bucks had five errors in the game, leading to three unearned runs that ended up being the difference in the game.

The Bucks were going up against Moondogs ace pitcher Zach Hall, who came into the game with a sub one ERA and three straight wins. The Bucks did get nine hits but scattered them out and ended up stranding eight runners on base. The Bucks first run didn’t come until the 5th inning. Pete Leonello doubled to start the inning and Austin Barrett drove him in with a double of his own. Austin Barrett provided the Bucks with their only other run with his second home run of the year, a solo shot in the 7th inning.

The Bucks pitching was very solid all night. Brock Hudgens started off the game and went five innings, striking out two and walking one. While he gave up four runs, only two of them were earned. Brett Andrzejewski and Chris Dunn finished out the game, giving up no hits in three innings of work. Andrzejewski did give up one run but it was unearned.

It was the poor defense by the Bucks that really set them back. The Moondogs put their first runs up of the night in the 3rd inning. Two RBI singles gave the Moondogs their only earned runs of the night and were followed by two unearned after an error on the Bucks. The other run scored by the home team came in the 7th off another error. All in all, the Bucks had five errors by five different players.

The Bucks play the Moondogs again tomorrow night in the second of a three game series before coming back home on Thursday. Remember to check out waterloobucks.com for all your latest Bucks information.
