The Bucks fell in the first of a five game series to the Border Cats tonight by a score of 10-6. The Bucks had an early lead, scoring four runs in the first two innings but a grand slam by the visitors in the 6th inning gave them the lead for good. The Bucks had their opportunities later in the game but were unable to ever score.

The Bucks scoring started in the first inning when Kevin Kaczmarski doubled to score Davis Hendrickson. Sean Borman grounded out to second next but the play still scored Benny Roberts. The Border Cats came back with one run in the second with one run saved by Hendrickson when he threw out a runner at the plate. The Bucks scored two more in the bottom of the 2nd. Freddy Villalobos singled and Jason Hockemeyer advanced him to third with a double. Nico Zych singled next to drive in one run and Pete Leonello scored another run with a sacrifice fly, giving the Bucks a 4-1 lead.

The visitors came back though and the score was tied at six going into the 6th inning. After stranding the bases loaded in the 4th and 5th innings, Justin Grijalva once again loaded the bases but this time Omar Cotto hit a grand slam, putting the Border Cats up 10-6.

In each of the final four innings, the Bucks got the leadoff runner on base but were never able to score any runs. The Bucks left the bases loaded to end the game on an unlucky line-out to the third baseman that led to a double play.

Micah Bryan started the game for the Bucks and went 3.2 innings, giving up four earned runs with five strikeouts and five walks. Justin Grijalva took the loss for the Bucks after giving up that grand slam. Connor Cline made his first appearance since returning to the team and was excellent, going 3.1 shutout innings with two strikeouts and two walks.

Jason Hockemeyer led the way for the Bucks at the plate tonight, going three for four with one double and two runs scored.

A milestone was reached in tonight’s game. With his single in the first inning, Davis Hendrickson now has 100 career hits as a Buck. We congratulate him on this tremendous accomplishment.
