Waterloo, IA – The Bucks fell behind 4-0 to the Border Cats of Thunder Bay, Ontario and were unable to comeback from it as the red and black added three runs of insurance later to take a 7-3 victory. After taking four of five up in Canada, the blue and yellow have dropped the first two games of this five-game set in Waterloo. After their fourth straight loss, the Bucks sit at 21-21 overall including 2-5 in second half play. The Border Cats improve to 19-23 on the summer and 3-4 in the second half.
At the plate, the hosts were unable to get anything going early while the visitors scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings to open a four-run advantage. The bats finally came to life for the good guys in bottom of the seventh when three runs crossed the plate for Waterloo.
Sean Borman started things off with a double and the next batter, Jordan Adams moved him over to third with a single to left field. Then, back-to-back singles from Freddy Villalobos and Riley Good each brought in a run. The third and final run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly from Nico Zych to score Villalobos.
That would be all though as Thunder Bay added three runs of insurance the very next inning and went on to take a 7-3 victory.
The bats from Waterloo were just unable to really get things going as the top four hitters in the lineup were a combined 2-17. Both of those hits coming from the catcher, Austin Barrett. Four Bucks registered multiple hits and those included Barrett, Jordan Adams, Villalobos, and Zych.
Getting the start for the home team was Mikey Ramirez (0-5) of Citrus College. He threw seven innings and gave up four runs on eleven hits while striking out three and walking one. Dan Ludwig (3-2) takes the win for the Border Cats after giving up just three runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking one.
In relief of Ramirez, Chris Dunn gave up three runs, just one earned in two thirds of an inning. After him came Kellen Camus who shutout the visitors in one and a third innings.
