Box Score
St. Cloud, MN – The bats from the Bucks were quiet tonight as the starter for St. Cloud was in complete control. Waterloo managed just one run on five hits while the Rox tallied five runs on nine hits. With the win, St. Cloud improves to 26-38 overall including 17-13 in the second half. The Bucks are now 33-31 and 14-15 in the second half.
Jordan Foley (Central Michigan) got the start for the Bucks and was throwing well early on. Waterloo was also the first to score thanks to the reigning player of the week, Connor McClain. The Indiana State product hit a solo home run in the top of the 3rd to give the guests a 1-0 nothing lead. It was his first shot of the season. That is all the scoring the blue and yellow would have, however.
Foley hadn’t given up a run through the first four innings but had walked four batters so he was showing some control problems. St. Cloud finally got on the board in the bottom of the 5th and was able to take the lead for good. They did it thanks to an RBI single and RBI groundout to go up by a score of 2-1.
An RBI double in the 6th gave the Rox a 3-1 advantage. That would do it for the starter after five innings as Conan Leon came on in relief of Foley. The final run he was responsible would score on a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.
Leon then threw a scoreless inning of relief after the fourth run scored and Chris Dunn came in to pitch in the 7th inning.
In the 8th, the home team added a fifth run on an error by the left fielder.
In two innings of work, Dunn gave up one unearned run on two hits while walking one.
On the other side, Lucas Long (Arizona) was in complete control on the mound for St. Cloud and earned the win to improve to 3-1. After the solo home run given up to McClain, Long settled down and was able to go eight innings giving up just that one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking one. In relief, James Jensen retired the side in the 9th to seal the 5-1 victory for the Rox.
Foley takes the loss and is now 4-3 on the summer.
In other news, the Bucks re-signed RHP Ryan Doty (Wartburg).
