Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks, members of the Northwoods League, have announced the hiring of Brandon Hunt as a coach for the 2013 season. Hunt, who is currently a volunteer assistant coach at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, joins field manager Travis Kiewiet and coaches Pat Casey and Tony Manville on Waterloo’s coaching staff for the team’s 19th season of play. In his role with the Vikings, Hunt works with catchers, infielders, and hitters.
Hunt began his coaching career in 2007 as an assistant coach for Sioux Falls East and Augustana. A native of Rapid City, South Dakota, Hunt served as the head coach of Sioux Falls Post 15 East’s squad for three years, compiling a 101-50 record and leading East to the 2011 South Dakota championship.
"I cannot thank Travis and General Manager Dan Corbin enough for the opportunity to coach with the Bucks this summer,” said Hunt. “The Northwoods League is one of the premier collegiate summer leagues and to have an opportunity to coach in Waterloo was something I could not pass up. I cannot wait to arrive in Waterloo and get the season underway as I’ve heard we have some of the best fans in the NWL."
As an athlete, Hunt was a utility player on Augustana’s 2003 North Central Conference championship team, the only NCC title in Augustana’s history. Prior to college, Hunt played for Rapid City Post 22, helping the Hardhats to a pair of state championships in 2001 and 2002.
“Brandon is a perfect fit for our coaching staff in that he has the desire and commitment to share his wealth of knowledge to our players this summer.,” said Kiewiet. “He has a great understanding of what it takes to play the game the right way and our players will be benefit tremendously from him. This summer, Brandon will man the first base coaching box as well run the defense. I’m excited to have Brandon on our staff and in the Cedar Valley for the summer.”
In addition to his coaching duties with the Vikings, the Sioux Falls native also teaches at Sioux Falls Washington High School. Born on September 10, 1983, Hunt is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Administration and Leadership at Augustana.
The Bucks will open the 2013 season at home versus the St. Cloud Rox on May 29. Season tickets, group outings, and single-game tickets are currently on sale.
