Waterloo, IA – Former Waterloo Bucks right-handed pitcher Evan Reed made his Major League Baseball debut Thursday with a relief appearance for the Detroit Tigers. Reed, who was called up from Triple A Toledo earlier in the day, threw 2.2 innings and struck out one in Detroit’s 10-4 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Reed, who played with Waterloo in 2005, was drafted in the third round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Entry Draft by Texas, and played in the Rangers’ organization until he was traded from Texas along with Omar Poveda to Florida in exchange for Jorge Cantu in July of 2010. This April, Reed was claimed off waivers from the Miami Marlins. In seven years of minor league baseball, Reed has appeared in 196 games and owns a 19-20 record, a 4.01 ERA, and 362 strikeouts with 44 saves.
With the Bucks, Reed appeared in 17 games, throwing 26.2 innings. The Cal Poly-SLO product struck out 24 and finished the year with a 7.09 ERA and a 0-1 record.
Reed is the 10th former Buck to make it to the show, joining current Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Clint Barmes as the only active Major Leaguer. Below is a list of former Bucks who have made it to the Majors.
