St. Cloud (MN)  The Waterloo Bucks bounced back from back-to-back losses to begin their five-game road trip with a 6-3 win over the St. Cloud Rox at Joe Faber Field on Friday night.

Chesny Young had two hits, walked twice and scored four runs in his Northwoods League debut.

T.J. Renda picked up the win on the mound allowing two earned runs over seven innings. He then passed the ball to the bullpen where Adam Dian struck out the side in the eighth and J.D. Moore earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Waterloo took a 2-0 lead with a Connor McClain sacrifice fly out in the second and a Kevin Needham sacrifice fly out in the third.

St. Cloud cut the lead in half in the home half of the third inning on a throwing error and would’ve tied the game if not for a nice defensive play. With two outs a runner at second, a hard hit ball behind the first base bag was smothered by Needham who flipped to Rends covering to save the lead.

However, the Rox did tie the game on an Adam Martin solo homer to left in the fourth.

Waterloo would reclaim the lead, and chase St. Cloud starter Alex McRae.

Young led off with a walk and stole second and with one out would score when Blake Hickman’s groundball down the third base line snuck under the glove of Chris Paul. Then later in the inning, Marcos Calderon blasted a two-run RBI double to deep centerfield to give the Bucks a 5-2 lead.

Kyle Pollock made it 6-2 with a RBI double that scored Young in the seventh inning.

St. Cloud inched closer in the seventh inning on a lead off single, wild pitch and base hit but Renda settled down to conclude his night with three straight outs and the Rox didn’t threaten again.
