Mankato, MN – The Waterloo Bucks secured their spot in the 2013 Northwoods League Playoffs for the first time since 2002 on Tuesday, with a 9-8 victory over the Mankato MoonDogs at Franklin Rogers Park.

Waterloo’s win, combined with the Duluth Huskies’ victory over the Willmar Stingers in the second game of their doubleheader, clinched the North Division First Half Championship for the Bucks. Waterloo, who currently owns the NWL’s best overall record at 23-10, returns to the NWL Playoffs for the first time since they won the League Championship in ’02.  That season, the Bucks won the Second Half South Division Championship on their way to the Playoffs.

The Bucks will face the North Division Second Half Champion in the NWL’s Divisional Playoffs, which will begin on August 12. If Waterloo wins the Second Half Title, they will face the North Division team with the second-best overall record. The Divisional Playoffs are a best-of-three format. The winners of each Divisional Playoff will advance to the Summer Collegiate World Series where the NWL Champion will be crowned.

Waterloo returns home to finish the first half on July 3 versus Mankato, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.  Group outings and single-game tickets are currently on sale. For more information, call the Bucks’ Ticket Line at (319) 232-5633. All 70 Bucks games can be heard on 1330 ESPN (KWLO-AM).
