Willmar (MN) Chensy Young and John Ziznewski each went deep as the Waterloo Bucks won their 10th straight game, 6-2 over the Willmar Stingers at Wednesday night. Both Young and Ziznewski finished with three hits, part of 12 hits from the Bucks who are now one win shy of matching the franchise record for consecutive wins set way back in 1996.
T.J. Renda earned the win on the mound allowing two runs on three hits over five innings, while the bullpen didn’t allow a hit the rest of the way. The three hits allowed by the pitching staff matches the fewest given up this season.
Waterloo never trailed, nor allowed the crowd of 1,847 (a Stingers’ franchise record) to impact the game. Young crushed a solo homer to centerfield in the first inning to put the Bucks up 1-0.
Ziznewski made it 2-0 in the fourth inning with a line drive homer to right.
Willmar didn’t have a hit in the game until Marc Flores rocketed a homer to right field in the fourth inning, to make it 2-1, and Nick Halamandaris evened the score with a solo shot in the fifth.
Though the tie didn’t last long as the Bucks used a four-run sixth inning to reclaim control. Jake Mahon and Connor McClain had RBI singles, and Will Sparks added a two-run single and the Bucks went up 6-2 which was the difference.
With the win, the Bucks are now 7-0 in the second half, leading the North Division and basically being greedy after already punching their ticket to the postseason as the first half champ. Waterloo is the lone team in the league still undefeated in the second half.
Waterloo’s 31 wins also lead the league, four games clear of the next best records.
