Waterloo, IA – The Northwoods League has announced that five Waterloo Bucks have been named to the 2013 All-Star Game. Those players are Marcos Calderon, Adam Dian, T.J. Renda, Aaron Rhodes, and Chesny Young. They will participate in the 2013 NWL All-Star Game that will be played on Tuesday, July 23rd at 7:35 p.m. (CST) at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Outfielder Marcos Calderon, a junior from Butler University and originally from Miami, Florida, is currently fourth in the league in doubles with 13. He is hitting .305 w
ith 24 RBI and eight stolen bases. Calderon owns a team-high 154 at bats to go along with a .409 slugging percentage.
Adam Dian (pronounced DEE-on), a sophomore from Temple University and originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is currently leading the team with six saves and a 0.50 ERA. In 18 innings, he has struck out 34 batters and is holding opponents to a .117 average. Dian has appeared in 15 games and owns a 2-0 record.
Alabama State University product T.J. Renda has the ninth best ERA in the NWL, sporting a 2.66 mark. With a 4-0 record and 28 strikeouts, he is holding batters to a .225 average. Renda has pitched 40.2 innings and has started all seven games he’s appeared in. He is originally from Apopka, Florida.
Aaron Rhodes
of the University of Florida owns a 3-1 record with a 2.67 ERA. Originally from Venice, Florida, Rhodes has struck out 36 batters in 30.1 innings pitched. He has been dominant at times against opponents this year with a .238 batting average against.
Third baseman Chesny Young,
a sophomore from Mercer University and originally from Atlanta, Georgia, is currently leading the team with four triples, which is also tied for the league lead. He is second in the NWL in on-base percentage with a .466 average and is tied for third in the league with 34 runs. Young has reached base via walk 31 times this season, which is the fourth most in the league to go along with a .331 batting average.
Both the North Division and South Division NWL All-Star teams were announced earlier today by the league.
Waterloo begins a six-game, five-day homestand tonight, starting with a doubleheader versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors. First pitch for the first game is slated for 6:35 pm.
