The offense that has been missing lately for the Waterloo Bucks (3-5) reappeared on Tuesday night, but the effort was not enough to overcome St. Cloud's surging bats.
The Bucks, losers of four straight, fell 11-6 to close out their series against the Rox.
Tim Shannon took his first loss of the season after allowing five runs (four earned) over two and one third innings. Brent Jurceka came in to relieve Shannon in the third, and put up an almost identical line. He allowed five runs (four earned) over two and two thirds innings.
Troy Whitty was the winning pitcher for the Rox, though he didn't make it out of the second inning. He allowed four runs (three earned) before getting the rope with one out in the second. Saint Cloud's bullpen took over from there and only allowed two runs from that point on.
Mikal Hill continued his torrid start to the season, ripping a triple to right field for his fifth extra base hit in eight games. Hill's three hits off of Saint Cloud pitchers made him the only Buck with multiple hits on Tuesday night, despite the team scoring six runs.
A 3-5 record is nothing to brag about, though there is a feeling of calmness among fans and team media personnel. The phenomenal 51-19 team of 2013 started off last season 3-5, before going 48-14 the rest of the way.
The Bucks now travel to Michigan for four games against the Battle Creek Bombers and Kalamazoo Growlers, before returning home Sunday to face the Eau Claire Express at 3:35 p.m at Riverfront Stadium. Cody Sedlock will take the hill tomorrow at C.O Brown Stadium.
