Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that catcher/infielder Zack Soria has re-signed to play with Waterloo for the 2015 season.  Soria OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA(pronounced SORE-ee-uh), a sophomore at Florida International University, is the third player to be named to the Bucks’ roster for the team’s 21st season.

Last season, Soria played in 35 games for Waterloo, appearing as a catcher in 31 of them.  The 5’10”, 190-pounder hit .272 with 20 RBI and a .315 on-base percentage.

“Zach was a late signee for us last year, came in as a freshman, and did a great job platooning as a catcher along with Blake Berger,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin.  “He receives the ball well behind the plate and drives the ball all over the park as a hitter.  To come in and hit .272 in the Northwoods League as a freshman was pretty impressive.”

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Soria transferred to Florida International from Mesa Community College where he hit .335 with 23 RBI in 55 games.  Soria had 11 RBI, stole four bases, and was named All-Conference, All-Region and first team All-Tournament at the Division II JUCO World Series.

Born October 29, 1993, Soria played baseball at St. Rita of Cascia School in Chicago where he was All-Conference, All-Area, third team All-State, All-Region, and a Louisville Slugger All-American his junior year, and was a Pre-Season All-American during his senior year.  Zack is the son of Robert and Deborah Soria.

The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.  Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
