Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that infielder Taylor Lane has signed to play with the team for the 2015 season. Lane, a freshman at the University of Florida, is the 15th player to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the squad’s 21st season. The right-handed hitter will join his Gator teammate Frank Rubio on the Bucks roster this summer.
Lane was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 40th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. This season for Florida, Lane has played in three games, hitting .200 in five at bats. The 6’2”, 200-pounder has one double and one RBI and owns a .400 slugging percentage.
“Taylor is another highly-regarded athlete that comes to us from Gators assistant coach Craig Bell,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin. “We’ll pencil him in as a third baseman that can play some outfield in a pinch, but fully expect to see him at all three infield spots. Taylor will be an everyday player for us, has a great body, and can really throw. He’s a guy that we see making it to professional baseball within the next four years.”
Born September 17, 1995, Lane is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia. Lane played prep ball at the IMG Academy where he hit .342 with 20 runs scored and 15 RBI in 2014. Taylor is the son of Anthony and Stephanie Lane.
The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28. Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
