Waterloo, Iowa – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that Danny Frey has been hired as the Play-by-Play Broadcaster for the 2017 season. Frey will be the ‘Voice of the Bucks’ for all 72 regular season games, along with any postseason games. All broadcasts will be streamed online at www.waterloobucks.com.
Frey spent the 2016 baseball season broadcasting for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms in Thomasville, NC, a summer-collegiate baseball team in the Coastal Plain League. He was in charge of both the broadcasting and media relations departments.
Frey comes to the Bucks from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill. where he served as the Play-by-Play Broadcaster for all Western Illinois women’s basketball games on the Leatherneck Sports Network from 2014-2017.
He recently filled in as radio baseball play-by-play broadcaster for the Burlington Bees, the Midwest League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Frey has also broadcasted Western Illinois football, baseball and softball games.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to broadcast the Bucks,” said Frey. “I can’t thank everyone involved in the Bucks organization enough. Waterloo is the right fit for me, and I’m humbled at the chance to work in the Northwoods League. I can’t wait to talk to parents and fans every night on the air. This summer is going to be a lot of fun.”
In 2016 and 2017, Frey was awarded first-place for Outstanding Radio Sports Play-by-Play at the Students in the Illinois News Broadcasters Association Awards ceremony.
Frey has been a key part of Western Illinois sports coverage while also working as the Sports Director for the student-run TV and radio stations since 2015.
“We’re excited to have Danny join the Waterloo Bucks in 2017,” said Bucks Sales & Broadcasting Manager Morgan Hawk. “Danny is passionate about broadcasting baseball, and our fans will certainly be excited to hear him call Bucks games. He has many years of experience, and he definitely stood out in the hiring process.”
The Bucks open the 2017 season at home on May 30 versus the St. Cloud Rox and play at Riverfront Stadium where the team welcomed a new state of the art video board in 2016 thanks to a matching grant from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association. Team ownership has invested more than $170,000 in improvements since the end of the 2014 season including painted bleachers, public Wi-Fi, sound system, group outing areas, and concessions equipment. Bucks 2017 Season Tickets and Group Outings are now on sale. Fans are encouraged to call the Bucks’ Ticket Line at (319) 232-5633 to order.
