The Waterloo Bucks (31-31, 11-15) received brilliant outings from starter Jack Parkinson and reliever Alec Holcomb in a 1-0 loss to the Mankato MoonDogs (31-34, 16-13) on Saturday evening. Mankato’s lone run came on a solo home run in the seventh.

Parkinson received a hard-luck loss despite chartering 6.0 innings of five-hit, one-run baseball with zero walks and seven strikeouts. The Rutgers product piled up a gaudy 21 whiffs on 89 pitches while working at a 73.9% first-pitch strike rate.

NDSU’s Holcomb covered the final 3.0 innings, striking out two and walking just one.

Dylan Phillips (3-3, 3B) produced a three-hit game for the Bucks.

Waterloo and Mankato wrap up their season series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. in the Cedar Valley.
