LA CROSSE, Wis. – Wednesday night in Wisconsin proved to be a good day for some, but a bad day for all.

The La Crosse Loggers (7-9) came into the game, heads held high after defeating Waterloo by 14 runs the previous day. Their confidence would immediately pay off as the Loggers plated two runs in the first inning, and three in the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead after the first third of the ballgame.

However, the Waterloo Bucks (2-12) would recover on the mound. Logan Runde, the Bucks starter, would strike out the side in the second inning, just a single ball away from pitching the rare immaculate inning.

Reliever Grant Hubka pitched through three of his four innings perfectly, striking out eight of the first nine batters he faced. And Trent Reddick had two strikeouts in his inning of work totaling 17 strikeouts for the Bucks pitching staff on the night.

The problem? The Bucks got everywhere on the basepaths except for home. Leaving the bases loaded twice and leaving 15 runners on base hurt the visitors to Copeland Park. The Bucks would get shutout for the first time this season in route to a 6-0 loss to the Loggers.

The pitching staff allowed six runs, only three earned as the defense committed three errors. Defensively, the Bucks would commit multiple errors for the second consecutive night riding off a two-day off stint.

One main statistic that stands out on paper is the sub .200 batting average with runners in scoring position this season. This is a problem that the Bucks are going to need to solve to have a chance of defending their Great Plains East championship from a year ago.

Waterloo returns home to Riverfront Stadium to take on the Bismarck Larks in a split doubleheader on Thursday in what’s going to be a four-game series against the only Northwoods team from North Dakota. The doubleheader will take place at 12:05 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. You can still purchase tickets to that game on waterloobucks.com. If you can’t make it out to the ballpark the game will be streamed on Watch NWL.
