Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks (13–19) secured their fourth sweep of the season on Saturday against the Minnesota Mud Puppies (6–13), winning the second game of the series 9–5.

The game was tied at one headed to the bottom of the third before Cole Hill and Brandon Fish both scored on wild pitches to put the Bucks up for good. The Mud Puppies closed the deficit to within one with an RBI-walk from Carter Hanson in the fifth, but the Bucks blew the open with six unanswered runs in the over the next three innings. The Mud Puppies scored the final three runs of the game, but they came up well short in the end.

After giving up 11 runs or more in their past three games, the Bucks’ pitching staff gave up just five runs, tied for their lowest run total in five games. Leading the way was starter Aaron Savary, who worked through the first 4.2 innings while striking out a season-high nine batters.

This game also saw the 2023 debut of Bucks pitcher Luke Llewellyn, who pitched in the top of the ninth while giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

After scoring 29 runs on 26 hits over their past two games, the Bucks had a much quieter offensive day. Brandon Fish had another productive day at the plate, going 1-for4 while scoring two runs and stealing three bases. Cole Hill and Elliot Good also contributed well at the dish, both recording two RBIs each.

The Bucks have now won three games in a row and will continue their homestand by hosting the St. Cloud Rox. The first game of that series will be on Sunday and is scheduled for a 2:35 p.m. first pitch.
