Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks (31 –26) maintained their push for the second half lead in the Great Plains East on Friday night, walking off the Minnesota Mud Puppies (8–28) to sweep the two-game series, 6–5.
The Mud Puppies put themselves up early, scoring three runs in the first two innings. The Bucks came back to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but the Mud Puppies scored runs in the seventh and ninth to go up by one score just three outs away from a win.
The Bucks came back in the bottom of the ninth to win thanks to a series of mishaps at the plate: a passed ball that allowed Elliot Good to come in for the tying-run and a wild pitch that allowed Marcus Heusohn to come across for the game winner.
The Bucks were led at the plate by catcher Kai Torres who, in just second start in the Northwoods League, went 1-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs.
The Bucks will travel up to Willmar, MN on Saturday for a two-game series against the Stingers. First pitch for game one will be scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
