Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks (37–30) won an absolute barn burner on Friday night, outlasting the Mankato MoonDogs (37–30) 14–13.
In a game that featured four lead changes, the MoonDogs jumped out to a three-run lead before the Bucks put up five runs in the bottom of the third to pull ahead. Then, the MoonDogs stunned Waterloo with an eight-run frame in the fifth inning, holding the lead until the bottom of the eighth when the Bucks scored four in the inning to regain the advantage for good.
An RBI-single from Brandon Fish tied the game at 12 runs a side in the eighth, then a two-RBI double off the top of the right field wall put the Bucks up. The MoonDogs scored a run in the ninth to cut the deficit to one and had the bases loaded with two outs, but a but fielder’s choice out to Drew Donaldson at second base ended the game.
Lippe went 2-for-5 with three RBIs while Elliot Good went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run he batted 359 feet over the left field wall.
The Bucks will close out the 2023 season on Saturday night with an opportunity to sweep the MoonDogs for the second time this season. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
