Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks defeated rival Rochester Honkers in a 9-1 victory in game one of the second and final home-and-home series of the season.
The Bucks bats were hot, but the arm of starter Ryan Gold was even hotter. The left-hander finished with a slash line of 6.1 innings pitched while only allowing three hits and striking out seven Honkers. It was also his second Quality Start in a row and his fourth victory.
Waterloo got most of its runs in the second and fourth innings when both had a four-spot on the board. In the second, back to back to back singles from Luke Finn, Ben Wilmes, and Lucas Moore got the Bucks their first four runs of the contest. In the fourth, Lucas Moore hit a two-run double and a sacrifice fly from Larry Edwards Jr got the Bucks three of the four runs as well.
Waterloo even got one final run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice groundout from Marcus Heusohn before flipping it over to reliever Pierce Boles to close out the game.
The Bucks head to Rochester, Minnesota, tomorrow for game two of the series with the first pitch at Mayo Field set for 6:35 PM.
