Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks faced the Thunder Bay Border Cats in a doubleheader with the Bucks taking Game One, and the Border Cats coming away with Game Two.
Game One: The Bucks won the first matchup on July 10th by scoring 12-9. The Bucks bats had quite a day by scoring all of their runs in bunches and by having incredible days by some team leaders and heavy hitters. The Bucks scored first in the Bottom of the 1st with a leadoff solo homerun for Larry Edwards Jr. Edwards Jr ended the day with just a triple shy of the cycle and a 4-4 game one. Three runs scored in the bottom of the fourth inning by station-to-station baseball from the bottom and top half of the lineup. The biggest inning was the fourth, when the Bucks scored four runs with two coming from a Marcus Heusohn single. With another three spots in the sixth inning with a big RBI double for Edwards Jr, the Bucks held out for a first-game victory.
Game Two: Thunder Bay was uplifted to a 7-5 victory by a big offensive day from Jackson Cooke. Cooke had three home runs over the two games with two coming in the nightcap of the doubleheader. With four RBIs of his own and other solid offense, the Border Cats got seven total runs. The Bucks scored five runs from the seventh to the ninth with three coming in the bottom of the final frame and it was a close fight until the end, but Thunder Bay held out.
Game four between the Bucks and Border Cats is set for 6:35 PM on Thursday, July 11th at Riverfront Stadium.
