Rochester, MN – The Waterloo Bucks and Rochester Honkers faced off for their third game of the series and final match of the season in a 13-inning brawl that had the Honkers come away victorious, 11-8.
Waterloo struck first offensively in the top of the second inning when Cole Smith (Southeastern CC) scored two runs on his single. Just an inning later, Lucas Moore (Louisville) scored on a passed ball and the Bucks held the lead 3-0.
Heading into the top of the seventh it was a 3-1 Waterloo lead when Christian Smith (Illinois) smoked his second home run of the year, a solo shot over the right field wall, and the score was 4-1.
Rochester scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and the game was tied at four through nine full innings.
From the top of the tenth inning to the top of the 13th innings each team scored one run a piece to keep the game going from Waterloo lead, back to a tie ballgame. Evan Morrison (McPherson) even stepped onto the pitcher’s mound in the bottom of the 10th after playing shortstop to start and end the game on the mound.
After a 30-minute light delay at Mayo Field, Rochester came up to bat and scored a game-tying run on a Paul Schoenfeld single and a few batters later walked it off with a three-run home run from Luca Dipaolo.
The final time for this extra inning battle was five hours flat.
Waterloo heads to Carson Park tomorrow to face the Eau Claire Express with the first pitch set in Eau Claire, Wisconsin for 6:35 PM
