Waterloo, IA – The Bucks’ arms were no strangers to a gunfight today as both Waterloo and La Crosse played a pitcher-heavy game with Waterloo coming out on top, 3-2.
There were zeros on the board until the fifth inning because of dominant starts from Waterloo’s Kyle Beaty (Florida Atlantic) and La Crosse’s Tyle Albanese (San Jose State). In the top of the fifth inning, Matthew Miura (Hawaii) scores his college teammate Elijah Ickes on an RBI single to give the road team a 1-0 lead.
The second and final run for La Crosse was off the bat of Landon Williams (Prarie View A&M University) on his single scoring Mitch Wood (Northern Kentucky).
Beaty’s final line for the Bucks starter was set at 5.1 IP, with 8 hits allowed, two runs (one earned), and five strikeouts to one walk.
Waterloo scored their first two of three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when both Ricky Requejo (USAO) and Cole Smith (Southeastern) scored on an Evan Morrison (McPherson College) fielder choice and an error.
In the bottom of the seventh, Loggers started Albanese was working through the seventh inning when Christian Smith (Illinois) smacked a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Marcus Heusohn (UIC) to give the Bucks the lead for the first time in game one.
Braden Gluth (Creighton) and Chaney Trout (Eastern Illinois) finished out the final 3.2 innings, with a combined three strikeouts and no hits allowed.
