Mankato, MN – On Saturday, May 31, the Waterloo Bucks defeated the Mankato MoonDogs 9-8 to give Manager Darrell Handelsman his 500th career victory in the Northwoods League.

With this win, Handelsman now becomes the third manager in league history to join the 500-win club with 488 regular season victories and 12 playoff wins.

The victory marks the third time this season the club triumphed in come-from-behind fashion as the Bucks overcame an early 3-0 deficit to win their second straight road game and maintain a perfect record away from Waterloo to start 2025.

With runners at first and second and one out in the top of the eighth, first baseman Marcus Heusohn roped an opposite-field double into left-center field to give the Bucks their first lead of the game. After Heusohn scored on a throwing error from the outfield on the same play, Waterloo tacked on its third run of the inning, matching their largest frame of the night from the top of the third. Heusohn’s run proved to be the game winner.

Righty reliever Logan Boenker got the win as he tossed scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings while facing only six batters.

After giving up four earned runs tonight, the bullpen surrendered its first ERs of the season, capping their streak of maintaining a 0.00 ERA at 22.1 IP.

The first road trip of the year will conclude tomorrow as the Bucks travel 82 miles east to take on the Rochester Honkers before returning home to Riverfront Stadium against the same opponent on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm (CDT).
