Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks swept a doubleheader against the Rochester Honkers Monday, June 9, moving back into a tie for first place in the Great Plains East Division.

In the first game of the evening, the Bucks surpassed the Honkers with a 7-5 extra-inning comeback victory. Jake Bechtel played hero in this one as the powerful righty sailed a three-run walk-off home run over the left field wall to give Waterloo the win in the eighth frame. When Bechtel touched home, his teammates swarmed him in celebration.

The Bucks erased a three-run deficit in the final inning, starting with a two-run blast over the right field wall off the bat of Marcus Heusohn. With the largest frame of the contest, Waterloo scored five runs to win the game.

Southpaw Parker Sweeney allowed only one earned run in 5.2 IP, and Tyler Glowacki grabbed his team-leading third win out of the bullpen.

Similar to the first game, the Bucks overcame a three-run difference to triumph 10-6 in the second game as the offense tied its record for its biggest inning of the year with eight runs in the sixth. Bechtel, Heusohn and Ian Halverson all drove in two runs, and Bennett Fryman earned three hits.

Konner Entz secured the victory in relief with two scoreless innings.

With these wins, Waterloo now improves to 5-0 against Rochester in their first five meetings. This start of 12-3 marks the best first 15-game stretch the Bucks have achieved since 2016.

The Bucks will travel up to Minnesota to play the Honkers again tomorrow. Chris Petersen makes his third start of the season as he takes on Jaren Ekkelboom Tuesday, June 10, at 6:35 pm (CDT).
